Sun protection for the little ones

Aizsardzība no saules pašiem mazākajiem

Sunscreen for babies and young children – it is a necessity and a responsible step for protecting the child's health in the long term! A child's skin, especially in infancy, is immature, and its internal resources do not provide sufficient protection against the adverse effects of sunlight.

The barrier function of children's skin is not fully mature: up to 2 years of age, the thickness of the stratum corneum is less than that of adults. The barrier function of the epidermis plays an important role in protection against UV radiation. This radiation affects the intercellular lipids of the stratum corneum, causing disruptions in the skin barrier and increasing its permeability. Protection against UV radiation is also affected by the small amount of the hydrolipid layer of the infant's skin, as the sebum-producing sebaceous glands, which were active under the influence of maternal hormones, gradually cease to function during the first month of life.

Melanocytes, the skin cells responsible for producing the protective pigment melanin, do not function fully in the skin of infants and children, and the skin is not mature enough to protect itself against sunlight.

Excessive, frequent and prolonged exposure to the sun weakens the natural protective system even in adult skin, not to mention children. The skin's level of the antioxidant vitamin E, which protects skin lipids, decreases. The weaker the antioxidant protection, the greater the risk that free radicals formed under the influence of UV radiation will cause damage to cells and their structures, including damage that may only appear years later, or even in adulthood.

Remember that the skin remembers everything too! Every sunburn leaves a mark, even if it seems like all the damaged skin has long since peeled off. Therefore, the first best protection from the sun for your baby is staying in the shade, appropriate clothing that covers most of the body, a sun hat and sunglasses.

To protect areas of skin not covered by clothing (face, hands, feet), you need a sunscreen specifically designed for the skin of infants and young children, one that is designed taking into account the characteristics of a child's skin.

Its SUN BARRIER TECHNOLOGY complex provides high-tech sun protection, specially formulated for babies' delicate skin. It is a combination of sunscreens, antioxidant vitamin E and apricot kernel oil with biomimetic lipids, which preserves the skin's barrier function against the sun.

Photoderm PEDIATRICS Mineral sunscreen for babies and young children provides very high broad-spectrum protection: against UVB, long and short UVA. The UVB protection factor is 50+, while the UVA protection index is 23. The cream contains 100% mineral sunscreen filters.

Antioxidant protection is provided by vitamin E, which helps prevent damage caused by oxidative stress and protects skin lipids, thus allowing the skin barrier function to be maintained. Meanwhile, biomimetic lipids from apricot kernel oil are important in the maturation and differentiation of the stratum corneum, thus strengthening the integrity of the skin barrier.

The cream contains carefully selected and very safe ingredients that are suitable for baby skin. Only two mineral sunscreens, without chemical filters and fragrances. The cream is very well tolerated on the skin and in the eye area under normal conditions of use and has been tested under the supervision of pediatricians, dermatologists and ophthalmologists.

Photoderm PEDIATRICS Mineral has a light and delicate texture, it is easy to apply and quickly absorbed. Forms a non-greasy, non-sticky coating and does not leave white streaks. The cream is photostable and multi-resistant (against water, saliva).
